Quaternary Ammonium Bacterial Cellulose for Adsorption of Proteins
نویسندگان
چکیده
Bacterial cellulose (BC) has attracted attention for preparing advanced materials due to its microfibrous structure. In this study, quaternary ammonium bacterial cellulose (QABC) as well as quaternary ammonium plant cellulose (QAPC) as adsorbents for proteins have been prepared. Introduction of the quaternary ammonium group was conducted under different conditions to determine the best conditions for modification. The fibrous structures of QABC and QAPC were quite different and determined by the starting material. The adsorption capacities of hemoglobin and an anionic dye, thymol blue, on the adsorbents QABC and QAPC which were prepared under different conditions have been investigated. QABC showed a higher adsorption capacity for hemoglobin compared with QAPC, but a lower adsorption capacity for thymol blue.

A novel method for D-glucose (D-Glu) and trimethylammonium chloride immobilization onto the surface of cellulose powder was studied. Cellulose powder was grafted with vinyl monomer glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), using ceric ammonium nitrate as an initiator, and further derived with quaternary ammonium groups to build the D-GluN-type cellulose absorbent (Cell-g-GMA-D-GluN). Epoxy cellulose was fou...

Waste pulp residues are herein exploited for the synthesis of a sorbent for humic acid (HA), which is a major water pollutant. Cellulose pulp was etherified with a quaternary ammonium salt in water thereby introducing positive charges onto the surface of the pulp fibers, and subsequently mechanically disintegrated into high surface area cellulose nanofibers (CNF). CNF with three different charg...

Multilayers with low charge density polyelectrolytes assembled on thin films of cellulose were studied by piezoelectric microgravimetry. The substrates were produced from colloidal suspensions of cotton fibers before and after modification with cationic and anionic groups via epoxy intermediates of quaternary ammonium and carboxymethylation, respectively. Two different levels of ionicity were u...
